About Blog
Adventures of an American oil painter.
My blog is about my journey and adventure as I try to gain national recognition and sales for my oil paintings as an American Oil Painter.
I feel like this sea captain, maybe on the Mayflower and setting off to the new world. Alone at sea can make you feel rather small. This is also especially true when you set off on a journey that is very central to you, like my oil painting is to me. It is my very soul.
I have been a painter all my life. Went to Columbus College of Art And Design. Worked in the design field illustrating and designing for publishing, advertising, package surface design like Windex, Kids Crest, and Renuzit and then onto website design and Internet Marketing which is where I am now with my own company Total Media Source Inc. Oh yes, also taught for 3 colleges and ended up being an Adjunct Instructor for University of Cincinnati for almost 10 years. Favorite class I taught was Painter. A class I designed to paint on the computer with Wacom Tablets while viewing a live model. I missed the tactile experience of painting, color and texture that the virtual world of the computer could not offer me so I went back to my first love of oil painting.
I learned a great deal about art and design in the commercial field and believe I bring all of that to my fine arts adventure in oil painting. Finally 3 years ago, I made the decision to make my painting a primary interest. The first year all that I did was paint, then begin to have small exhibitions and even a big exhibition that is coming up this year. The big shows take more waiting time.
Painting, creating a painting website www.DarylUrig.com, contacting galleries, working at Total Media Source and family life is consuming all of me as I set off on this newest adventure in sharing my thoughts with my readers in this blog.
I look at this blog as a way to better understand myself and the world around me. My hope is that I may find other people having similar experiences and develop a more concise road to success as an oil painter. Together we can do this.
One of my goals of being an oil painter is not just having people get pleasure from my work, but also by them enjoying it so much that they want to purchase and collect it and see the oil paintings’ value grow.
Life affords us this great opportunity to set off in any type of adventure we so choose. And this is my adventure. Land Ho!
