Sun City South Carolina was a warm and welcome place to have my workshop, discuss painting, do a few color exercises and develop paintings. The workshop focus was on having an actionable plan to create our illusion with our medium. To do this we must first understand a few of its limitations.
To be a good painter we must comprehend the basics of our medium. The exercises made it easy to see what we are up against. Use only so many values. The white will not match the white we have in light. Our conceived black in a landscape is a weak gray. Our color pigments do not mix like light. With these core principles we may now compose a painting that works.
We enjoyed a sandwich at Okatie Ale House, one of my favorite places to eat. They asked me back next year to instruct a Plein Air Workshop. So mark your calendars.
