When I was studying the Impressionist painters it dawned on me about the importance of having a group of other artists that you can share your ideas with, get feedback, accountability and friendship.
The Impressionist painters had a small group of painters who met regularly and ended up forging the Impressionist movement. To name a few, Manet, Monet, Renoir, Sisley, Pissarro, Degas and Cassatt. It did not have to be a huge group, just an association of talent and ideas. And by no means did they always get along. Some were even argumentative about their ideas. But I think this only fueled greater ideas because they had passion.
In any group I think it is important that you feel comfortable sharing your point of view, and that your view will be respected even if others do not agree.
That your association ignites your creativity and helps you energies your desire to create new pieces of great art.
Your association will open up new avenues and networking as you share your information on what is happening in the community.
Your respect and association with other artists will develop even into friendship with some of the group. And I have found this to be important to have some friends with similar focus to your own life.
There is so much you can learn from others, so it is important to have an open mind to new ideas. Even if you are in a rut, if you will allow, they may be able to open a door in your life or your mind that will allow you to crawl out of the rut you have fallen into.
You may want to participate in an art show together, create your own workshop as we have done to create new avenues, direction, and exposure for your paintings, that you may have not tried if you where by yourself.
We also chose on certain occasions to paint together, hire a model together to lessen costs.
There is so much that you can do together. Brad Hall, successful motivator that helped companies to create new ideas and products, had the idea that we can only create great and new ideas as a group. Maybe this is what the Impressionists saw. I will leave it up to you decide.
If this has been helpful or you would like to add your ideas to this post, please do.
