I remember hearing in school that all experiences can add up. Sometimes going off track can be a healthy part of development.

On the Vine

On the Vine, 30 x 15 inches, oil on panel

So when I decided to turn off the path and begin making wine it was a welcome adventure. I had not made wine since I was 11 years old. Yeah, that is right. My brother accidentally made vinegar (wine making gone wrong) and this interested me. So up till I graduated High School I enjoyed the process of making wine. In the tenth grade I made a wine press in wood and metal shop that helped to press the juice from the fermenting grapes.

Now with the resources so easily available on the Internet, it was fun to look into this process again. Putting together a version that suited my personality and the wine making grapes I planted in the back yard 4 years ago. They are Concord and Niagara plants that will yield a sweet wine blend. Least that is what I am hoping for.

You may remember a painting I did a few years ago of a woman inside a grape arbor. Those are my grapes.

I won’t go into all the exact details of my recipe, I would like you to find your own on the Internet as I have. For me it is a rewarding experience.

For those wanting to make their own wine I am proving below most of the equipment you will need. You can easily order items by clicking on items here from Amazon.  I choose to assemble my own equipment. It probably would have been a lot easier to just order the kit.

Once you have the equipment it opens the door to make many different types of wines inexpensively. I plan to remake this wine again next year. It helps to enjoy wine tasting. I am am thinking about adding dandelion wine. I have been growing them in my backyard quite successfully also.
